Florida's is as bad or worse. Remember the scandal with the missing children?

I don't think the legal system is to blame. This is a bad byproduct of when you have 50-60, even seventy children per social worker. The workload for them is obscene...more money needs to be dropped into the system and we need better control systems as well.

All government agencies are wasteful and incompetent, better to fire everybody and start over from scratch.

if nine people were fired i think you can safely say this wasnt because 70 people were assigned to one person.

I read this yesterday. Those social workers should not only be fired but have cirminal charges laid against them as well. There is no excuse for ignoring something like that.

no....this is definately the social worker's fault. the report said 38 visits were made in the past 5 years and not a single complaint was made. that is definately criminal...not overworked worker who just didnt care.

Authorities said the boys ? the other three aged 14, 10 and 9 ? were locked out of the family?s kitchen and fed a diet of uncooked pancake batter, peanut butter and jelly and cereal. The boys, who told investigators they also chewed on wallboard and insulation, were found after a neighbor discovered the oldest boy rummaging through trash for food.

that is just sad! and its a shame too. those boys were probably too weak to even voice their opinion. i cant even imagine not going without food for a week...let alone being starved over years! i really hope they put those social workers in jail along with those bastard parents

I give it a year and they will either be back at work in the same position in the same state, or another state.

Hey, I'm a state employee!

And your posting here while on your job. It's Tuesday and 12:30EST, so if you're not working then you're obviously on your lunch break, so I take that back.

But if you ARE working, then you just furthered our opinion of state workers.

I heard about this on the radio last night... They said the governor was asking that charges be brought up on the social workers who screwed up.

Breaks don't count anymore? It's 9:30 here...break time!

From the news conference...

"I am faced with a staff that is either uncompetent....."

heh, heh.

These things happen all over the nation. Social workers slacking is nothing new. No one checks on them because their superiors are slackers too. Their supervisor should be fired as well.
