So I got a ticket the other day and yes I was speeding no doubt. I actually thought I was in a 40, so I was doing 42. Reality I was in a 30 :(...........So now my mailbox is flooded with letters from traffic lawyers saying no fine, no schooling or money back guarantee blah blah. Has anyone had any experience using a traffic lawyer, I mean they must work most of the time or they wouldnt be in business I am assuming. Any feedback is appreciated except the smartass comments

When I went to traffic court, I saw some people with lawyers there. I can't say exactly what the lawyers did outside of court, but when the lawyer spoke in court, all he/she did was state the persons name, that they had so many kids and a good job and then asked for probation before court and got it. The funny thing was that the people with lawyers were given the exact same penalties as those without. They were all given reduced monetary fines and dropped points. So do you need a lawyer? I don't think so, unless you have a bad driving record.

Their value goes up with the severity of the ticket. If you get a DUI or something along those lines they are a must. A basic speeding ticket, not so much (but it varies by state).

From what I have read these traffic lawyers handle eveyrthing so you dont even have to show up to court.

just get a prayer for judgement. The ambulance chasers send letters to everyone that has a court date. 99% of the time the county ban...err court house just wants your money and you will just get court costs, unless you did something really bad. 12 over is chump change.

Yes, that is what Ticket Clinic does. After you pay them and fax them your ticket, you will get two letters in the mail. The first one will be informing you of the date that one of their lawyers will be going to court for you which is usually a few months from when you got the ticket. The second one comes after the results of the court case are finalized. No need to go to court.

Traffic court is definitely an other worldly experience in the East it seems. In the West, judges really dislike presiding over basic traffic cases due to their workload hence, the court clerk does their best to reduce the case load by offering reduced fines, points, etc thus keeping the case out of court. If you do choose to go to court over a basic traffic ticket (like doing 42 in a 30), you damn sure better be in court yourself if you want to avoid the judge resting their thumb on the fine scale. The basic premise being if they feel their time is being wasted, they sure as hell are going make sure yours was as well.

What state are you in?

When I lived in FL, I used 1-800-Citation many times and every single times they got everything dropped.

They were a flat fee of about $75 last time I used them, which was maybe 5 years ago.

Wow, biz must be slow lol. You can check with the court to get an idea of your possible fines before you have to appear. If they are not too bad, and they shouldn't be for the speed, I would just go plead guilty/no contest. Be straight with the judge and tell him you thought you were on a street with a speed limit of 40, but still take responsibility. If your driving record is clean he will most likely go easy on you.

For a more serious offense, they are worth their weight in gold. At 18 I was facing a charge that carried a state mandated 6 month suspesnion and possible jail time. My license was already under suspension when I got nabbed, hence the mandatory. I was also going to face the judge who took it away the last time. She enthusiastically promised me if I was ever in her courtoom again she would throw the book at me, twice.

I called a lawyer who was suggested by my boss. He asked what I was facing, what judge was presiding, then told me a dollar amount and not to worry.

I walked into the courthouse ready to begin my jail time. Climbed the stairs, turned the corner, and there was my lawyer and the disrobed judge drinking a nice tall cool class of lemonade and laughing. 15 minutes later I was in court sitting in stunned silence as my mouthpiece said a few small words and the judge called me up to the bench and handed over the license she previously took from me, the same exact one. It was still stapled to the piece of paper she attached it to the last time I we met. I never aksed how or why I was able to avoid the mandatory suspension, I paid no fines, no reinstatement fees, NOTHING. I just paid the man and legally drove home. $400 for less than an hour of his time, some of the best money I ever spent.

I hired a lawyer over a bogus ticket a few years back. The cop didn't show up so the case was dismissed.

Woot, another Tampon!!!

If it's your first ticket in Hillsborough County, I second The Ticket Clinic.

My driving record:

Got a 91 in a 70 (open stretch of highway, only endangering myself) in Pasco County, which arguably only exists so that it can be a speedtrap. Got some random ticket lawyer that my friend recommended, no points, didn't have to pay the ticket, but the judge reamed me up the ass with $223 court costs.

74 in a 60 in Hernando County. The cop was cool and reduced it to 66 in a 60 because I was late to some graduation planning thing, I told him it was a dress rehearsal. I took the online course and got the points dropped.

54 in a 45. If I ever find the cop that pulled me over I'm shoving my foot down her throat. I was traveling slower than traffic, and she turned her car, along with lights and radar on (my detector went off when I was a few feet away from her, everything was off up until that point) right when I got to her and pulled me over. Ticket Clinic took care of it for $100, had to pay $6 or 7 in court costs. This was on Linebaugh Ave. right before Mullis City Way. Anyone that's ever been in the area probably knows it's a speedtrap, I didn't.

Moral of the story? If it's your first time getting a ticket in any county, you're golden. I wouldn't even bother paying for a ticket lawyer, show up and ask to see radar calibrations, etc. Most of the time the cop won't have that kind of shit and you're good to go.

There's a really good ticket lawyer on Highway 60 (Adamo) and I-75 in Brandon. I forgot what the law firm is called, but if you've got a serious offense then go with those guys. IIRC, Ticket Clinic is in Miami or something, so you have to mail them everything. On that last ticket they "lost my check" and all my paperwork in the mail, and somehow got my roomie's ticket and all it's paperwork. We mailed them at the same exact time, literally as in put them in the same mailbox. That's why they did it for $100, it would've been I think $150 for Hillsborough County. I had to schedule the court date myself in order to avoid getting my license suspended, and then forward all the info to them. They were cool about it though.

Oh, and don't look forward to having to go to the clerk of court to pay any fees, ESPECIALLY the "Floriland" one on Nebraska and Busch. That place sucks ass. Go to the Brandon one if you can.

This is my second ticket, last year in Dover I got one at 7am for rolling this a stop sign......Dover has a population of like 50 people and most of them are in the strawberry fields at 7am lol.......needless to say I wasnt very happy. All my other tickets were when I was in my teens living in Polk County. The ticket clinic quoted me $89.95
