WORLD CONGRESS CENTER --MAJOR EVENT - MARTA IS PREPARED TO ACCOMMODATE BASKETBALL FANS FOR THE 2003 NBA ALL-STAR GAME ACTIVITIES, THURS. 2/6/03 - SUN. 2/9/03.

So everyone knew that their brother and sister and aunt and uncle and third-cousin's dog where going to be in town this weekend in Atlanta. Heck there's even a bull riding event and pretty flowers to look at! Now who's wonderful and intelligent idea was it to schedule all 3 events for the same weekend at the same freakin' complex!!! For those who have never been to Atlanta or don't know about the GWCC or The Dome, they're right next door to each other in what used to be one of the, shall we say, roughest neighborhoods in Atlanta.

Take MARTA...it's SMARTA!

The most entertaining thing about going downtown to Atlanta this weekend is to see all the women who want to win the lottery...I mean get impregnated by an NBA player.

I just missed an opportunity to work the NBA All-Star game...if I had, I would have gone downtown. Since, I'm not...I have no reason to go down there and will happily spend the weekend working on my house.

The news headlines over the weekend should be amusing....

Fights Break Out Between Rival Groups at WCC Events

Fausto- Staff Satirist

ATLANTA(BS)- Tensions flared to the boiling point this weekend as rodeo fans and flower afficionados came to blows; apparently over the merits of their respective events. The violence reportedly began when an intoxicated rodeo fan referred to a passing group of Flower Show attendees as "pansy-ass petunia-pickers". The enraged flower show group, initially numbering as many as 12 according to shocked bystanders, turned on the two rodeo fans and committed acts of violence too numerous and disturbing to be listed in this family paper. Before security could contain the situation, it escalated into an all-out fight between the two groups as hundreds of other attendees joined the fray. Local SWAT teams were eventually called in to disperse the crowds, but not before at least three were killed and many more injured in one of the worst instances of mob violence in Atlanta history.

Dr. Steven Skoorb, a trauma surgeon at Grady Hospital who was on staff when the injured began to arrive, expressed shock at the extent and nature of the injuries he treated. Said Skoorb, "Never in my 23 years have I seen these kind of things. I removed 15 daffodil bulbs from the rectum of one victim alone......I never thought that a group of gardeners would be capable of such heinous violence. I always thought they were a peaceful lot."

A witness to the melee, who declined to be named, described the series of events, "I was just outside for a smoke when I seen these two rodeo fellas makes some kinda comment to some of the flower guys. I guess it was something pretty bad, 'cause the flower guys just went crazy. I did two tours of duty in 'Nam and I ain't never seen nothin' like that.....made me sick to my stomach."

World Congress Center officials are strongly considering declining the flower show's application for next year's event, or at least avoiding the scheduling of multiple large events on a single weekend in the coming years. Said one official, "I never thought it would come to this, and I'm deeply sorry for the events that occured. I just never would have pegged the flower folks as such a volatile bunch. We'll make sure this kind of thing never happends again."

Ha! Drive around Baton Rouge for a week and you'll be ready to throw your license in the garbage.

I-10 reduces to zero lanes in Baton Rouge. It can take 40 minutes to travel 2 miles.

I worked a couple shows at the World Congress Center a few years ago. The sad part is that all those events probably only take up half the facility. :)

Okay, now take the entire population of LA, jam it into one metro area, add three bigass conventions withing a half-mile radius, add alcohol and stir. Your traffic may suck, but we're in a whole different league.

How many places do you know where it takes 45 minutes to drive 8 miles to work every day? Only in Atlanta. My boss has to drive 30 miles. It takes him over 2 hours some days!

Fausto1, good satire. Nice and refreshing!

The 405 and 10 freeways in L.A. are pretty bad. My 20 mile commute to UCLA was 1 1/2 to 2 hours each way. I feel your pain.

When they say Atlanta has the longest average commute times of any city in the world they really mean it! I'm dreading my drive home from work tonight. I work in midtown so I'm going to have to fight my way out in just a little bit. Traffic already looks interesting outside, bunches and bunches of limos, $$$ SUV's, stretch this and that's, and some pretty slick looking Caddy's. The funny thing is, I work right next door to the Wyndham Hotel, posh posh hotel in the same league as say a Ritz Carelton, but I haven't seen any famous people over there yet. I saw 1 band and their roadies earlier today, but no one else. They must be sneaking out the back entrance or something.
