Personally, I use the 3 count. If someone is sitting in front of me at a green light and not moving, I start counting. By 3, if they havent started moving, they get the horn. Or I'll wait for someone else to honk and I'll join in unison.

I had to deal with morons yapping on cell phones instead of looking at the light today. Needless to say, I got the finger but I made the light!

if its green and they're slowing down to the light because they think its red i'll honk. did it yesterday. don't use the horn much. in colombia they use it all the time... if you're passing you alert the person by honking, etc.

Depends on how big of a hurry I'm in. I'd say anywhere from a 3 to 5 count.

I don't use my horn a lot, but like you said, I'll give it a few seconds before I start honking at them.

I am very, very sparing with my horn.
I use it only when someone is going to cause an accident or if they take more than 5 seconds to react to a signal change.
General stupidity is not correctable with a horn blast, I've figured out that much...so I leave the stupid people alone and let them annoy someone else.

I step on the gas the instant the light turns green. If they're not moving by then, I jam the horn down continuously until they go :)

and i also made sure they're weren't getting into the left turn lane first.

there was this CRV or RAV4 or other mini-ute keeping me from completing my turn from my apartment complex into the middle lane (traffic was stopped). he was in the left lane. if he'd have pulled up 6 inches (he had like 4 feet) i would have been able to complete it but instead i blocked 2 lanes of traffic for a bit, then honked at him, he pulled up 3 inches and then sat there. bastard.

i use it very very rarely.... usually only at stop lights after a significant amount of time has passed. i hate people who honk *after* you've done something. it's already done, honking does nothing about it you idiots.

As soon as the opposing light turns yellow, I lay it on. I find a pre-emptive strike is the best offense.
;)

In reality I rarely honk, although if it gets out of hand, I'll start tapping.

There is a frustrating intersection by me that I often have to honk at. Basically a single lane on either side makes a turn into 2 lanes going the same direction.
For some reason this confuses people. People on the opposite side are making a left turn theoretically into the left lane and people on the near side are making a right in the right lane.
Add to this, there is a right-turn arrow.

For some reason people will sit there with a green light and/or a green right arrow, not going anywhere while they sit there and watch people making left turns from the opposite side.
This ALWAYS gets honks from me.

I'll tap the horn politely. Not so much of a honk, but more like a "bep bep bep"
