Desert Towing, San Jacinto, CA.

I love wrinkles. Trade-in at Carson Toyota on election day, Nov. 2016. Hmm. Calls, yuck,,,

Without a little more background info, my position would be to tell them that your lawyer will soon be contacting them to tell them to fsck off, along with a bill for the trouble.

I would venture a guess that somehow it ended up in a tow lot and they are just sending out notification required by law so then they can auction the vehicle off.

That.

Probably working from stale registration information - sometimes it can take a month or two to update, so if they towed it and pulled the registration info shortly after sale, but didn't send out noticed right away...

tow companys make money scrapping towed cars nobody wants to claim.

I wouldnt ignore it, but you arent on the hook for anything unless you want to get it out. A simple phone call would suffice.

I sold a car and moved out of state. Years later I moved back to that state and when I went to register my current car I was hit up with a bill for late registration on the old car. I explained that I had sold it years before with proper title transfer. They confirmed the title record but still hit me up for one year's registration anyway.

Show up at the dealership where the trade in was done and start raising hell. Make sure those knuckleheads show proof that the title was transferred out of your name.

I thought most states it was mandatory to report sales (I know a lot of people don't). In my own state, it is not required to report it though if you sell it to a dealership. Given that a bunch of dealerships are lazy and don't do things legal...I'm not surprised!

Yes I cleared it up, but I never understood before that after a title has been transferred the old owner could get a towing bill. I thought my name was off the car. I guess this could keep happening depending on where it ends up. I want to say there should be a law in case I was too stupid and paid the almost $700 bill, but I guess I have no privacy regarding my discarded car.

The towing company and the dealer said that my name will always be in the DMV records for that car no matter what. I have no idea what might happen if it were to be used in a crime. 🙁
That's bullshit. As a previous owner, sure, but since you sold it to the dealership, there was a title transfer and they know who it went to.
