Wish this was availble 3 months ago when I bought my Mini.

Mini Storage: 4 gigs
Carbon Storage: 5 gigs

Mini battery life: 8 hours
Carbon battery life: 20-24 hours

Mini formats supported: MP3, Apple lossless
Carbon formats supported: MP3, WMA, Audible codec which I'm not familar with

Mini: requires software to add and remove songs
Carbon: doesn't require, can drag and drop

Mini is a smidge lighter, but the carbon is very tiny as well...it's shorter than the mini but a bit thicker and wider.

Both are $250

I'm thinking about putting the mini on the FS/T block and going for a carbon. The nearly 3x as long battery life seems like a huge win.

it's not yet released, is it? I'd wait for a month or two after its release for user feedbacks.

Best Buy near me had 4 of them in stock last night.

I definitely think it's a good idea to trade in the mini and try out the rio carbon. Just make sure you buy from a place with good return policy, just in case you don't like it. Long battery life is truly very useful. I love my Zen Touch's 24hr battery life.

Indeed, Chicks dig Ipods!🙂

LMAO...i don't think that will be much of an issue...

Heh. I had a cutie from ASU fondle my ipod on my last flight from Chicago to Phoenix 😛

compare the interface.

Interface is what concerns me. I haven't been able to find any carbons on display to fiddle around with them to see how easy it is to navigate through 900 songs 🙁

Eh. Esthetics only go so far when 90% of the time the DAP is either in my pocket or concealed under a shirt when working out.

Rio has always been known for excellent UI. If it's anything like the Karma's, it's great.

Get the Rio from a 30 day store and see if you like it. My friend brags about the Ihp 120 all the time so when my Nomad Jukebox 3 broke I decided to test one out from Fry's. Coming from Creative's interface I hate it. It's nowhere near as intuitive (IMO the ability to control the volume from anywhere is a must but I dont think you can do that on the Iriver). I liked the way the Nomad created a playlist on the fly so I could easily find songs that I've recently listened to or like a lot.

If you're used to the Ipod interface you should definitely "test" out the Rio first.

I'll be returning the Iriver and getting a Zen Touch instead. No argument from me since I'll be saving $300 (I'm getting it for free 🙂)

Found my first major "negative" for the Carbon 🙁

Only charges over USB. Booooo! I charge my mini almost entirely from the wall charger. Plus, when I'm on the road I can charge it with my FM modulator. And when I'm traveling I don't always have my laptop available to charge it up so I can just plug it into a wall to charge.

No such luck with the carbon. Major negative for it that I'm seeing right now.
