Trade in 9800 PRO/XT for X1600pro? (AGP)

well, it kinda wasteful to get +10% performance over his 9800xt for $130 [x1600p] when for $10 more [6800std] you could get at least +20% or for $70 more [6800gs] you can get +100%.

You know, people keep mentioning the X1600XT when discussing the X1600Pro, as if they're the same card. They aren't. I have yet to see any reputable site do an X1600Pro benchmark. The one I did see had it neck in neck with a 6600GT on pixel shader heavy games, but losing by 30-50% in older games.

And yeah, going from a 9200 to a X1600Pro is about factor of 4 performance increase. That's going from 640x480 to 1280x1024 at the same frame rates. That's just orgasmic.

But it'd be a pretty minor sidegrade over a 9800Pro, especially one flashed to XT and/or overclocked. Not enough to go up a resolution or turn up quality settings at the same frame rate. Definitely mow a few more lawns or skip some lunches to save up for a PCIe upgrade and at least a PCIe 6800GS or X850XT for ~$160. Sell that AGP rig while you can still get something for it.

And apop, the 6800GSA (my new name for the AGP version of the 6800GS, not to be confused with the 6800GSP, or the PCIe version) is nowhere near 2x 9800Pro. It'll be closer to the 6600GT/1600Pro.

that AGP 6800GS is still pretty close to the performance of a 6800GT . . . especially if unlocked and o/c'd .

at ANY rate it is a LOT better than a x1600p [which is no upgrade for a 9800xt]

That bytesector review makes a couple interesting remarks... saying 24fps means smooth graphics and claiming the x1600PRO almost outperforms the 6800gt in farcry when its clearly half as fast unless you count 1024x768 no AA/AF being a meaningful benchmark.. even the x1300pro is almost equal at that point.

Yes....because Intel Pentium XE 955 is going to bottleneck any of those cards... :roll:

The point is going from 9800Pro to X1600Pro will increase performance, but the price/performance ratio is terrible. This is one of those cases when saving and spending more on a card is actually worthwhile.
