Anyone know if it will be the widescreen or pan and scan? I just called a store and they didn't know. Any more knowledgeable employees out there?

I have another quick question - I have a bunch of DVDs that I purchased when a local rental store closed that have the store's name and the stock number in permanent marker on the DVD disk. Will EB take these?

Ok, I got the marker off, but does EB distinguish between rental and retail versions? Rental versions have all the previews built in at the beginning...

-----

After posting this I went and did a little project - I wrote down UPC codes of movies I bought from the store and then went to the video store and checked them against the movies there. What I found was, for my two test movies (Fast and the Furious and Hannibal), the UPC code was the same.

So anyone else who has bought used movies from a rental place and wants to trade them in shouldn't have anything to worry about.

To accept or deny, they will scan the UPC bar code on the retail box to see if it is in their system. Your rental DVDs will need the retail box from the DVD.

I tried this yesterday and I it didn't work for me. The guys at EB said he was unaware of any such deal. I asked him to check and he said all the deals are in his computer and he couldn't find anything. Could this be a regional deal or something?. I am in California. I would love to do this and I have extra DVD's to trade in. Thanks

I've never heard of a "regional" EB deal. Depending on where you are on the world map, perhaps...get the store associate to check the corporate directives. They should be reading those, anyway. Either that, or check with the manager.

We must be the only ones who know about this. My store had to look it up in the weekly directives book to get the details even after this has been in effect for a couple of weeks. The clerk said that he "thought" he remembered seeing "something" about it awhile ago - thank goodness he remembered "something" or I might have been SOL. Now I just have to keep the receipt and remember to go back and get Spiderman in November. Traded American Outlaws and Perfect Storm with no problems.

It was a no go for me. The girl at the EB I went to didn't hear of this promo, but she spent quite a while trying to find it. I'm going to try another EB this weekend.

Hmmm....I got a couple of horrible 70's BETA tape conversions on DVD that I picked up for like $2 each......might be a good use for them :0

Now to just find a EB near me?

i dont think EB will take PVD from blockbuster because on the disc, it has the blockbuster sticker on the disc. The dvd that you trade in have to have the insert for dvd.

My sister just got Harry Potter from Blockbuster a few days ago, previously viewed, and there were NO stickers except one on the outside of the package which was removed. There's nothing on the discs. I don't see why such DVDs wouldn't be valid.

This is just like the LOTR deal.

I have a friend who is an EB Manager, here is the scoop.

You can trade in as many DVDs as you want and for each pair of DVDs that you trade in that they have on their SKU---gets you a Spiderman DVD.

They only carry Widescreen.

my friend came with me and he traded in flatliners and don't tell mom the babysitters dead.... awful, just awful that they would accept dtmtbd. im still gonna have to make fun of my fried for even owning that movie to begin with ;p
