Trade Canon 100-400mm for Tamron 150-600mm?

As the title says, I already own the Canon 100-400mm lens. I've been looking at the Tamron 150-600mm as a replacement. That extra reach is very attractive. I do mostly wildlife photos and BIF. My body is a 70D also.

I have read a lot of reviews and it seems like its a tossup between the two. If I didn't own either I would definitely be going with the Tamron. However, seeing is how I own the Canon already, would it be worth the trade? Near as I can tell it would be about an even swap as far as $$ goes. Local shop gives 65% of retail on trade.

Thanks!

The Tameron quality is far below the Canon.

Maybe try using a Canon 1.4x multiplier on the Canon lens.

I would rent or borrow one to try before I buy to make sure I'm happy with the focusing mechanism.

I was trying it out on Saturday at a local event. Everything seems just fine as far as focus went. I did have to change some setting on the 70D compared to the 100-400 but I got good results.

As a side note, I also tried out one of the 16-300mm Tamron all-in-one lenses as well. What an awesome bit of kit!

Ultra zoom is a perfect multipurpose lens, if you are happy with slightly lower IQ than kit lenses.

Please comeback here and let us know what you think of the Tamron 150-600, because I'm thinking to get it as a complement to my Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS II & 1.4X III.

I will be sure and update if I pull the trigger. I want that Canon lens as well.

Went to the camera store yesterday to check on the 150-600 as well as the 16-300 all in one.

Short story, they had the 150 but the other one is going to be there Wednesday. Will purchase then.

BTW, girlfriend is getting the 28-300 Tamron for her 6D. Gonna be an expensive trip......
