Traction Control!

Hey all,

I've got a 2001 Monte Carlo (not the SS), and recently the traction control has been engaging at totally random times. Such instances include when I'm backing out of a parking space or when I'm accelerating from a stop and turning the wheel at the same time. No, the roads aren't wet and this is just under normal acceleration. So far, it hasn't happened when I'm just cruising. When it happens, the traction control light turns on and I can feel the pulsating occurring with one of the wheels. It still haven't pinpointed exactly which wheel it is, but I believe it's the front passenger side.

It more of an annoyance than anything. And I can turn off the traction control, but then a light comes on in the dash letting me know it's off, which is also annoying. My first instinct tells me that this may be related to a Hall effect sensor failure which also controls the ABS. I had this happen in a previous car, where the ABS light remained on and it turns out one of the hall effect sensor went bad.

Before I start tearing into things, I wanted to see if there's anything else I should look at.

I had a '97 Monte Carlo Z34 that would kick on the TCS light when pulling out of a particular parking lot where my wife worked. There was nothing special about the lot. But for some reason when you drove over the transition from the lot to the road the light would kick on and you'd feel that grinding sensation in the front wheels.

Never could get an answer from the dealer on why that happened.

So I have nothing to add to this post about why...just support that you aren't alone with a completely psycho Monte Carlo 🙂

I hear you, I have a 06 Mazdaspeed 6 and the DSC and TCS systems will wreak havoc on rough roads. But when you aggresively driving on a track, they're almost transparent.
