Questions regarding internet -

1- If I initialize my Hard Drive and do low level formatting and write zeroes on my hard drive...... is there any way of anyone finding out what Internet sites I have visited ?
2- The Internet service providers....do they have a log of every site every customer has visited? If yes is that legal?
3- How do FBI etc track what web sites a person visited when the individual uses an Internet cafe?
Just curious. As I have been taking part in various debates on few forums and I said lot of bad things against a certain religious group...argh** Osma ...Isl*m

1) If you want to feel perfectly safe, dispose of your harddrive with a blowtorch.
2) Yes they have a log, yes its legal
3) Cafe use etc, depends on how the internet cafe is set up.

Who has access to this log? Can I ask for access to this log or is it for government officals only? Technically speaking this log could be off value to businesses as they can keept track of a users web habits and try to target/market there products accordingly. I personally find this un ethical. No one should know what my internet habits are unless I break law. hmmm

The log is created because every internet request you make is going through their systems, so in order to cover their butts they need to have a record of who actually made the requests.

If you want to know the specifics about your ISPs policy on their log, as in what it collects, how long is stored, etc. give them a call.
