Tracking long lag spikes

Do you know how if you have a shortcut to a shared folder, and the computer that is sharing the folder is not online, you will get a very long lag spike? What I am trying to find is a program that will tell me when that happens, and which process is calling it. In the case of the shared folder, the process would be explorer.exe. I been trying to use procmon but it is not capturing these long duration events.
