trackball brain adjustment

Just wondering, if I've used a mouse for almost my whole life, would a trackball be too much of a leap to adjust to?

I see some nice ones that sound (by other's experience) like they're very responsive and accurate and well-made. Some people even use them for FPS games with good result. I don't have a bunch of room to move my current mouse around and after certain periods of time my palm dragging on the mouse pad gets irritating.

I'd like to buy a trackball, but if it's a huge adjustment (as in, frustrating to get used to) then I will most likely stick with my laser mouse. Thank you.

It will take you up to a week to start to feel comfy with this. By 2 weeks, you'll be glad you did this.
Try the Logitech Marble. Most stores don't have it. Easily available online.

The only real adjustment will be when friends use your computer.

If you have any applications like Photoshop, you'll immediately come to appreciate the increased precision that comes from separating mouse clicks from physical movement of the trackball.

Yeah, its crazy easy to learn, and once you do youll never forget how to...just used my Microsoft ball mouse the other day just to use it (havent touched it in years) and I was just as good at it now as I was then.

I would never prefer it over a real mouse in say gaming, but if all you do is browse and desktop work and what not, youll never want to touch a mouse again!

They are great for desktop use and really suck for gaming, in my experiance. Since i do mostly gaming ill stick with my Razor.

I've set up computers for people in their 70s and they much preferred trackball over mouse because some of them cannot hold the mouse steady and click. Their hand shakes when they stop moving and they have difficultly clicking what they want. Sometimes they move the mouse when attempting to click or they cannot click fast enough to register double click and still keep the mouse in place.

Trackman Marble was $20 about a year ago. They've increased to $30 recently...
