Track/Running Questions....

So this is my first time ever running track (Spring Track in my Senior Year) and i am loving it. I do have a couple of questions though.

Is throwing up bad? I pushed myself so hard on my lest 400 (I actually run the 1 and 2 mile race) that i gagged 3 times after i finished. I almost broke my ~8 year no throwing up streak. I was under the impression that throwing up was very bad, but apparently it is a common thing in track.

Also is it still a good idea to eat lunch. My lunch is ~2 hours before i actually start running so everything sort of jumps around in my stomach. Is it a bad idea to eat so close to running, or should i eat lunch regardless (By lunch at the very minimum a small bag of chips).

Finally, ill occasionally get a cramp in my side. That is because i am not drinking enough water right? To prevent cramping up I should drink more water (Yes, i stretch after the warm up) correct?

Thanks,
-Kevin

I've vomited after a race before. I think it's a combination of nerves and extreme physical exertion that leads to throwing up. I see nothing wrong with it, as long as you PR! 🙂

Definitely eat lunch, but eat smart. Don't eat too much - a sandwich and a bag of Sun Chips was the perfect size for me in HS. PB&J on whole wheat bread is good. Leftover spaghetti is good too. Fast food is not good.

Cramps are a fact of life. If you run through it, it'll be easier next time you get one. 🙂

Also, drink a TON of water - about 1/2 - 1 gallon a day. It'll make you feel a whole lot better, especially as the weather continues to warm up and you sweat more.

Well hopefully ill have enough control over myself that i wont need to throw up. Although after a while it is out of my control. I was just always under the impression that throwing up is a bad thing.

Normally ill just have a bag of chips at lunch and i dont eat breakfast (Not normally hungry). Is not eating breakfast going to affect anything?

Well i, of course, run through the cramps, but i certainly cant go quite as fast as i would if they weren't there.

Im trying to drink as much water as possible these days.

Another question. After i run and stand for ~20 seconds while most people are still gasping i somehow recover fully and am ready to go again. Obviously not 100% when i start running again, but im not doubled over (which is bad) panting or something. Is this a sign of very good endurance, because i assure you i am not slacking at all when i am actually running.

You run the risk of passing out during/after a race if you don't have enough calories in your body. You should definitely be eating breakfast, even if it's just a bowl of cereal with a banana, and definitely eat more (and better) than a bag of chips for lunch.

Would a salad (Maybe with a little dressing) be good for lunch; and a banana good enough for breakfast. Or should i have more than that?
