I can do traceroute to all nodes which are NOT directly connected. But showing me stars for nodes within LAN or directly connected. Is it the correct behavior?

The only time that I'm aware of where you will get stars for traceroutes will be when the device will not respond to ICMP requests.

If you do a traceroute to google or another website, the 3rd or 4th one should end up being stars. That's your isp not replying to ICMP requests.

Different operating systems do traceroutes differently. Some use ICMP (ping), others use UDP. It's likely a firewall on the destination machine is blocking.
