Got the urge to finish up TQ:IT this morning. Pop in the DVD and nothing happens! Tried some other things and find that the DVD is just not able to be read. Yes, there are scratches on the disk (thanks to the kids) Any suggestions besides buying a new disk? Has anyone ever used this program and does it work?

if you can't fix it, i got mine from gogamer for less than $10 shipped last week

you might try taking it to a Hollywood video ... they can rescue disks for $5

NO files can be read? you have tried other optical drives?

the optical drive is working properly?

try it in another rig or take it for repair ... i don't see a lot of choice other than to buy a new one
... and maybe have a talk with the kids [or consider backing up future DVDs] :p

Like others said, try the disk on another computer first. My last drive was like that (wouldn't recognize a bunch of DVD's), ended up being a firmware problem.

I'm thinking you guys are right about it being a drive recognition issue. Both TQ and TQ:IT are not recognized. That's too much of a coincidence for me. And it being a Samsung DVD, it doesn't surprise me that it could be a firmware issue.

As for Steam, I tried it, but unbelievably the CD key is not in a format that Steam recognizes. THQ sells the game through Steam, but if you have the retail version you can't register it on Steam. I have an email into support.

Well, it looks like it's definitely the optical drive - Samsung SH183L. I installed the newest firmware (january of this year) and it will not read any DVD-ROMs, including a brand, spanking new one for Stalker. I believe I bought this piece of crap off of FS/FT. hrrmmph, next time I'll just buy one from Newegg.

I was going to suggest putting in a known good disc first, before buying another copy of TQ.
Looks like you already figured that out.

You can get dual layer burners from newegg for less than 30 bucks these days. I got a SATA drive for 23 dollars a few months ago. Works like a champ. Now I have no huge parallel cables in my case.
