.tp Video Editing

I have been recording stuff off of my new MDP-130 and from the shows which I have recorded, I want to cut out the commercials, but keep them in .tp since they look OH SO NICE!

What software would work?

I'm not sure. Is this a pure MPEG-2 transport stream in an MPEG-2 container? Once I know the exact format it's in I can help you. I only have an external HD tuner so I can't get the original stream. See what you can do with Sony's Vegas software? Download a trial of it...and then...umm... ... buy it. 😀 Once again I need to know the exact format of it to help you, though.

On a side note, I want a damned internal QAM cable HDTV tuner that supports encryption so I can record HDTV when I get it from cable. Anyone know of any?

MDP-130 😀

The first two posters have one 😀

Of course, if it's encrypted, you need the box, I think, but it should work once you get it from the box.

edit: can't seem to find the Sony software

the trial for Vegas 6.0 is right here:

OK so when Comcast gives me HD cable they will give me a decryption box, instead of an all-in-one tuner? That's good because I want flexibility. If not, will a standalone decryption box be available? It's impossible for an internal HD tuner to decrypt the stream because each company uses their own type of encryption, correct? I heard about some cards you can stick in the TV to supply the TV with the codes for decryption. That probably doesn't apply for internal tuners, though.

i'm not so sure

By the way I have no idea if Vegas will do it or not. I just threw it at you in case you didn't already know about it. I'm not familiar with .tp (toilet paper? transport?) files but very familiar with video in general. I assume it's just raw MPEG-2 directly copied from the 6 MHz-wide signal in the cable.

lmao@your sig

yeah, that quote in my sig is awesome

.tp is similar to .ts (i dont know if you're familiar with that), but it's usually for live HD captures

I'm pretty sure there is no such thing as a standalone decryption box right now, that's just one of the functions of the tuner/box.

I thought Vegas 6 worked with both packetized and transport stream. Did you try V5? V5 needs an add-on from Cineform IIRC.
