Buy.com has a good deal on a set of three powerline adapters. It would be a decent deal on a pair, but you can now get three adapters for the price. Since single adapters sell for almost as much as two-adapter kits, this is a killer deal for those who actually need three units.

Remember: you need

  • One adapter connected to your router to start a Powerline network
  • One adapter in each remote location/room to complete/expand the network

So, two adapters will let you connect only one other room to your LAN, while three adapters will let you connect two remote locations.

$59.99 - TP-LINK AV200 Mini Powerline Three Adapter Bundle = TL-PA211KIT Starter Kit + TL-PA211 Adapter

There are quite a few experienced users on this forum who use powerline networking and are quite happy about it. I have used a different brand (Zyxel) powerline adapters for a few years and absolutely love the technology. It gives me the performance of wireless N with better signal stability.

What's compatibility like with other brands? How well does it work on separate circuits in the same building?

You won't know how well they work until you try them at your location. Theoretically, they should work with other HomePlug AV 200mbps adapters, but I would consider selling the old ones on craigslist and getting multiple kits/bundles of these to avoid mixing and matching.
