Question TP-Link Archer VR400 wifi working at 5Ghz only

I think I'm savvy enough for configuring a home router, but it's not working as it should

what I've done so far:

different SSID for 2.4 and 5
output power is at max
protection is enabled by WPA2
router is 1 day new

wi-fi channels are set to "auto" both for 2.4 and 5 ghz
but
I only see the 5ghz SSID!

Are you thinking at some interference? Should I set manually the wifi channels for the 2.4ghz and see if it starts?

any other suggestion?

thank you

Without knowing the model of router, my suggestions are:
1) is the router set to broadcast 2.4? There might be a check box or menu list to hide/broadcast ssid.

2) did you try resetting the router?

When I set a new Wireless Router.

1. I use a Wireless capable Laptop known to have both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz capabilities as oppose to "iPhonee devices".

2. Test it with the Laptop 3-4 feet from the Wireless Router.

3. I make sure that All the Wireless Menus in the Router are configured correctly.

4. I run on the Laptop this Portable Freeware App to see what is the Wireless condition in my enviroment and change the WIFI channel if their is other strong Signal around.

If it does not work under the above Cont I return the Unit and ask for an other one.

Make sure you didn't set compatibility to AC-only.

802.11ac operates only in the 5GHz band.

The 2.4GHz capability of an 802.11ac router is b/g/n only.

Most routers work well straight out of the box. I would do a factory reset with default settings (even ssid and password) and see if you can connect on both bands. Then start configuring it and see what you're doing to break it. 😀

forcing the 2.4ghz channel to 11 and channel width to 20Mhz was the solution for me
Awesome! Hopefully that will be it. When I did that, a few hours later some of the other routers 'moved' their channels and then I was clobbered again. I finally had to just leave mine at auto too.
