Toys 'R' Us to sell/close down toy business?

🙁

Man... I sure hope those stores don't end up closing. Toys R Us was hands down my favorite store when I was a kid. Seriously, my parents didn't even have to buy anything for me, I could just wander around playing with whatever was in the aisles within my reach. 😀

The company blames, of course, discount retailers like Wal-Mart for making business hard. Wal-Mart with their like two aisles of toys... where's the fun in that for a kid? Stupid Wal-Mart ruining the retail industry...

I also read in a different article that kids are playing less with toys and more with video games and stuff. For people here with kids, is that true? I mean, I played video games when I was a kid, but also a lot of outdoor stuff (tennis, baseball, basketball) and also a lot of "regular" toys like action figures, board games, toy cars, etc. (I'm 22 now, so like late 80s, early 90s).

Would be a sad day if Toys 'R' Us ever went out of business....

They sell crap there anyway. Have you seen the toys they've got now? Most of them are just plain stupid. Aside from the Lego aisle, there's not much in there worth buying.

I think they're just trying to find someone to blame for their poor business. Toys'R Us has been overpriced since the dawn of time, and i really doubt the two toy isles at Walmart would really compete well against an entire wearhouse size selection. If anything, online retailers are more responsible than Walmart for their demise.

they can't obviously hold on to toys 'r' us name anymore...
baby stuff are killer profit though.
little material, like bikini, and only last for a few months. 🙂

I remember feeling like I was in heaven everytime I could convince my mom to take me there (once in a blue moon since all I would do was beg for toys). High prices or not, its still attached to good memories.

The question you should be asking is how did walmart with its "two isles of toys" manage to become the number one toy retailer by sales with such a sparse selection.

My kids are getting my thousands of dollars worth of legos I have in the attic. Sucks about Toys R Us though, because running through that store was my favorite thing to do as a kid. It was heaven.

Because it's Wal-Mart and that is where the parents would rather shop. Yeah they have cheaper prices, but they have waaaaaay less toys.

The answer is surely your avatar picture. 😉

All about the money, obviously I know that. I'm just the type that's willing to pay a little extra for better service, selection, etc. Wal-Mart knows that 90% of the shoppers are buying 10% of the toys, and they took advantage of it. I still hate them for it though...

Yes, that's the answer. Shrewed positioning and downward pricing pressure. Oh well I'm sure who ever buys takes over Toys R Us will maintain an online toy store for those hard to find toys.

walmart should go to hell

you dont see target with a world dominating vision

target doesnt stick banks, hair salons, candy stores, and auto shops in its stores

Target would love to be in the position that Wal-Mart is in, and so would just about every other company on earth.

exactly....

FAO Swartz (very high end and expensive toy store in San Fran and other cities) went bankcrupty TWICE... and they too blame it on WalMart. Perhaps the real reason is, let's say, lack of customer?
There are only two type of ppl that will shop at FAO Swartz: Rich spoil kids, and Michael Jackson. The first one rather sit at home and play PS2, and the second one..... you fill in the punchline.

Sounds like a cop out to me... you couldn't find a good punchline yourself so now you want us to create one for you. Not gonna happen buddy!

Keep in mind that Target stores did have a tire and auto shop in their stores. Granted, it was several years back, but they did have those services.

FAO Schwartz bought out Zainy Brainy. ZB was a unique store because you could find toys, puzzles and books that were not being sold by other retailers. However, once FAO got ahold of them, they stocked the stores with run-of-the-mill toys. Needless to say, people stopped shopping at ZB because they only had items that could be purchased from several other retailers. FAO dug their own grave - in my opinion.
