A trumpet-playing robot has been developed by Japanese car maker Toyota.
It showed off its musical creation at a Tokyo hotel, where the robot played When You Wish Upon a Star on a trumpet.

The machine is the latest in a series of robots developed by Japanese companies to showcase their prowess in humanoid robotics.

Sony and Honda have both used humanoid robots to as a platform to demonstrate their computing power and engineering know-how.

That SEEMS impressive, but it's really when you get down to it only throwing a few extra moves between me pressing play and a CD playing the trumpet, or a player piano playing itself.

Why do all these Japanese car companies feel they have to make robots to tout their engineering prowess? I don't see Ford or Chevy building robots. Maybe they're insecure as a 16 year old girls.

Unfortunately, that's probably what it's going to come down to. Whose robot can win in a fight, a battle, a war, etc. etc.

Its because they are sitting on billions of dollars in cash and have no way to spend it.

That, and the fact that the domestics are losing enough sleep trying to figure out how not to lose more ground to the japs, than lose more trying to create a robot.

This leads the way to a robot jumping out of your trunk to fill your gas! While playing the trumpet!

No, no. Robot that gives you a blow job and then converts that into fuel. You don't even need to pull into a gas station! I think you'd wanna pull over though, roads won't be safe with all those bj drivers.

It's a difference in Japanese vs. American companies. American car companies make cars. Japanese companies are often conglomerates. Often the conglomerates are family run and passed from generation to generation.

Toyota, for instance, has Housing, Information & Communications, Finacial Activities, Biotech, Marine, and Industrial Equipment divisions. As shown here.

It's a difference between American companies and (some) Asian companies.

Insecure 16 year old Japanese girls are hot in a dirty sorta way.

Also - if it actually manipulates "lips" to play the trumpet properly, that is a very impressive achievement. Proper embosure is hard to learn as it is, and teaching a robot to do it would be even harder.

maybe make a "cute name" around that...

anyway...it may not be as impressive as sony's insane running dancing robot, but still it takes smarts and ingenuity to create a machine like that.......
