Toyota Tundra

Does anyone have any experience with the new Tundra? I really like the double cabs with the 5.7L, but I'm worried about some of the things I've read online about transmission and tailgate issues.

Consumer reports likes it better than the new Chevy, but I wonder if they are biased. For instance they rate the reliability of the new Tundra as good, while the Chevy is not rated since its new. This makes no sense, the Tundra is a completely new model with new engine, new trans, new everything, while the Chevy is more of an update to the previous model.

It seems the old Tundra is a better bet than the new design at this time based on what I've read too. Might want to wait for some of the bugs to get worked out.

Consumer Reports likes the badge on the Tundra better. If you haven't been paying attention lately, they admitted to blindly giving Toyota favorable ratings without actually collecting any data for Toyota vehicles. Anyways all the Tundra has over the Silverado is the engine. Other than that the Silverado is light years ahead of the Tundra.

Despite these problems, Toyota (including Lexus and Scion) still ranks third in reliability among all automakers, behind only Honda and Subaru. Still, because of these findings, CR will no longer recommend any new or redesigned Toyota-built models without reliability data on a specific design. Previously, new and redesigned Toyota models were recommended because of the automaker's excellent track record, even if CR didn't have sufficient reliability data on the new model. If Toyota returns to its previous record of outstanding overall reliability, CR may resume this practice. Typically, CR will only recommend a vehicle if the magazine has at least one year of reliability data for that specific model.

Yeah CR said they gave the Tundra a favorable reliability rating based on previous toyotas. Now I can kind of understand that logic if they were testing the new corolla, but for a brand spanking new Fullsize truck thats built in new plants? They should have given the same new rating as the chevy.

Thanks for that update link Ktulu, I was going off of the last CR magazine that had the Tundra and Silverado in it.

The new Tundra is awesome. A co-worker has one and it is a beast. Does suck the fuel though.... However, there are a few things he sent me that may concern you (They got his shorts in a knot!). Toyotas manufacturing chief says the Tundra brings "Shame on Toyota". Read about it.

Also, something else recently found, even though it hasn't affected more than 20-30 Tundras is this: Uncontrolled acceleration. Why these folks didn't kick it into neutral and shut it off I'll never figure out, except for inexperience.

Some things for you to ponder.......

Bob
