Does anyone have an 07 Tacoma? How's the gas milage? What do you like / dislike about it?

I won't be hauling much with it, maybe a 4wheeler once in awhile but mostly my kayak.

My opinions:

- Great reliability and resale value.

- The truck is now much uglier since the redesign.

- The truck is WAY overpriced for what you get. You are paying for the Toyota name.

Just my opinions ...

You really should go to a toyota forum like tundrasolutions or toyotanation to ask your questions. With that said the new tacoma has a chain driven 4L v6 which should last you a very long time. I drive an 06 tundra dc because the taco was too small for me.

***Dislclaimer*** I'm a Frontier owner.

But...the Frontier is a stronger built, more comfortable, and better to drive truck than the Tacoma.

Tacoma is overall a good truck as usual but they do have some strong points and weak points.

Gas Mileage is about 16 - 17 in the city, 18 - 21 on the highway for the 1GR-FE V6 motor. I think the 2TR-FE I4 gets 19 - 21 in the city, and 24 - 26 on the highway.

Come check out Toyota Nation's 05+ Tacoma section for better input.

A Ford Ranger with a 4/cyl 5-Speed is a better value, The V-6s are gas hungry, and power deficient though.

It's also probably a more economical choice. ...but fuglier than hell. :p

I bought my parents one back in February (regular cab, 2wd, 5-speed, enhancement pack). Its definitely a huge step up from their previous '89. Drives pretty well. I'm rather impressed by handling on twisty roads. Probably overpriced a bit, even as a base model, but their old truck was in such great shape for being nearly 20 years old what hell. This new one will likely be just as good.

Oh, one thing I really like is the composite bed; no need for bed liners of any sort.

Seriously?
You think this is worse?

I agree that the "snorkels" on the top of the Nissan are rather polarizing, but otherwise the Frontier has much "cleaner" lines than the Taco.

I use the roof rack on my Fronty though...it holds my Kayaks. :)

I have a 2005 Tacoma 4WD TRD V6 with manual trans.

First of all, I love my truck. Unlike a previous poster, I really like the new look of the Tacomas and like how roomy it is inside. I would certainly buy my truck again, but I might go for the automatic instead of the manual. Don't get me wrong, I love driving manual, but this manual has long throws, has a decent amount of feedback from the road, and is not smooth like I would like it. The auto is rather good in the Tacomas...and gets better gas mileage on the highway because of higher gearing. Of course, we are talking about a truck here, so I really don't mind the manual...just the auto is certainly more refinded.

I do love the ruggedness of the truck...I've driven it in all kinds of off road terrains. It is not as good as the last model (which was taller and narrower) for offroading...but it is still dang good. I've never had any issues with the truck...everything works like it did the day I bought it and I expect to keep it another 10+ years. I've already got 40K miles on it and maintenance has been simple (oil/filter, air filter, trans oil, etc). The powertrain is rock solid.

The truck is a bit pricey...you certainly can get a similar equipped (or even nicer) Frontier for less money. It gets a little worse gas mileage, but is cheaper to begin with. The engine is slightly more powerful, but the truck is a good bit heavier, so the Tacoma wins speed wise. The Frontier as a little nicer ride than my TRD off road suspension...but in the ruff, the TRD suspension shines.

As far as gas mileage goes, I generally get ~18MPG with mostly city driving. On trips I get around 20-21MPG as long as I keep the speed at 70MPH. If you get the Auto, you should get even better gas mileage.

Yep - fugly.

Ofcourse I'm a bit biased when it comes to this sort of thing. I sold toyota's for a while and then had a little 2wd taco for 3 years. The frontier never really did it for me. But it definately is a bit easier on the wallet. :)

While I do think the new Frontier is significantly nicer looking than the old Frontier, I still prefer the look of the Tacoma (old and new). That's obviously a personal preference and not really a good reason to buy a truck that you're going to keep for 10 years and beat the crap out of. If your buying the truck just for looks and not actually using it...then buy a car...they are much more fun to drive, economical, and look a hell of a lot better (again...personal opinion).

I have a 06 prerunner, thats 4 doors, 4wd style suspension, but only 2wd. I can get 24mpg highway if I nurse it, and never go above 70 mph.

I get 19 highway if I go 85mph.

I towed a 10k lb uhaul trailer from Georgia to California with it, and on some highways in Texas, I was cruising at 90mph with no problem at all. *shrug* I love the truck still.

Well, my 2 cents...

Just buy an F150, run it 5-10 years, buy another one... Cheaper in the long run, parts available forever, take it to independent mechanic for service, fluid changes...
