the day i see a hybrid transmission that can handle 800 lbft of trq, is the day my idea from last night comes true.

i was sittin on the can thinkin about the low end trq of an electric motor, and how much it would help a HD truck, but then you think of the amount of power you need high up as well, and well, that tranny needs to be fvckin strong.

a lot of ppl associate the HD versions with the Light versions in terms of true truck ness.

I don't quite get what you're saying. People view Toyota's and Nissan's potential HD trucks as being of equal quality/usefullness with their lite trucks (Tacoma and Frontier)?

I think as far as lite trucks go, the Tacoma will always sell well, so long as it's basically on the top in terms of masculine design aethestics, reliability and feature. Also, I figure if anyone's gonna bust out a truck with truly decent gas mileage, Toyota will be the first...but maybe I'm wrong.

Motors in the wheels can provide that amount of torque, no problem. ~200 a wheel is F-all.

your wrong.

GM has better FE than the new Tundra, and they also have hybrid (full) coming out early next year as well.

what i ment with the HD thing, was that, people think that an HD truck, that is the most powerful, thusly means the light truck version of it will also be the most powerful. plus it shows strength of the frame, which is nissans biggest issue, their frame can NOT handle the HD duties.

hahaha, I love Nissan's reason

Nissan had hoped it could build a heavy-duty version of the Titan off of the half-ton's platform, but it's clear that the truck's frame won't be able to meet the minimum payload and towing targets that heavy-duty truck buyers demand

They shouldn't even bother.

I love my Tacoma truck, light & good on gas. Super reliable. My uncle has a brand new GMC truck and in less than a year he has had transmission problems, and he "baby's" his automobiles. Toyota is great, and the resell value shows it. In five years all I've had to do is change the oil, replace the battery and put gas in it.

the TCO of a Tundra vs a Silverado favors the Silverado FYI.

It took me a while to figure out that HD = Heavy duty.

I was like "WTF is a High Definition truck?"

I gotcha. I think I had the correct, general idea.

I see the Tacoma/Ranger/S10/Frontier as a totally different class of truck versus the Tundra/Titan/Fxxx/Ram/etc...

In the lighter of those two classes, I've viewed Toyota's Tacoma as being on top for some time now. I've never really been interested in the larger class, so I wouldn't know.

My dad sold his 1978 Toyota truck to a guy years ago that commutes from MO to OK several times a week. It's had one new transmission, but otherwise just requires normal maintenance. 600K+ on that one. My dad sold his 1991 Toyota with 250K miles on it. He currently owns a V6 Tacoma and I don't blame him given his past experiences.

Odd. Toyota must be predicting very good sales of the various Tundra models, or some sort of spike in Sienna sales due to the SUV slump. Otherwise they're going to have a whole lot of production capacity between TMMTX and TMMI.
