I just thought I would post this because everyone was bashing Chrysler(and domestic cars in general) so bad a week ago. I guess those imports aren't quite as reliable as everyone was saying.....:p

50k isn't alot of car? My town has 14k people in it.....thats more than enough to replace every car in town. Thats a whole lot of cars. Why are they being recalled?

I wouldn't mind seeing 50,000 less of Camry's on the road in my county alone, of course you wouldn't notice a difference...What anyone sees in ANY Toyota (besides the Supra) is beyond me! Reliability? Yeah right , maybe 15 years ago but, they are a totally different company now and they're products are sickeningly overpriced!

When you consider they sell in the 100,000s each year 50k is nothing. My '95 BMW 540 had a recall.

yeah, the recall could be as small as...."bad efficiency exhaust"

or something, hey, its better than having a problem and NOT doing the recall and trying to play it off.

Almost every line of vehicles has had a recall for something or other during its production run.

Jmman: even recalled toyotas are better than chryslers:p

I agree, all cars have recalls at one point or another. Looking on the internet, evidently Camrys have had several recalls over the past few years. As far as a link, it was on CNN......link

I just thought it was ironic since we had the 300M versus Camry debate awhile back and almost universally the opinion was that the Camry was a paragon of reliability.....:)

Well, let's see. Consumer Reports Buying Guide for 2001 pages 164-5:

THE BEST AND WORST USED CARS

CR Good Bets-
Toyota = 8 models
Chrysler,Dodge,Plymouth = zero models

Reliability Risks-
Toyota = Zero models
Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth = 10 models

Go figure?!?!

They were called back for accelerator cable reliability problems. They were prone to breaking, causing the engine to fall to an idle, or for the throttle to stick open at the point where the cable broke - which could cause a dangerous situation IMO.

This is USED CAR DATA provided by their readers. Not some test they ran.

You got any source saying they are worng?

Their reader submissions would likely be an uneven sampling and even less reliable then their tests. Besides with editing you can make any information say what you want.

My favorite essay on consumer reports is now 404, but
this one while not as good still gets across many good points. Anyway I've gotta leave now, I'll try to refresh this thread when I get back tomorrow :)
