My friend is having an electrical problem with his 2000 Toyota Echo. My car is identical. Does anyone know if we can switch out our computers and instrument clusters between the two cars to problem solve without loosing the settings and mileage in the memory?

Interesting I switched the instrument cluster from Echo 1 with 55k miles ½ tank of gas to Echo 2 with 80k miles with ¾ tank. Turned on power, Echo 2 with Echo 1 cluster read 80k miles with 3/4 tank full its original configuration. Immediately turned power off then switched Echo 1 computer to Echo 2. Again on power up Echo 2 held its original settings 80k miles and ¾ tank. Echo 1 also mirrored its original 55k 1/2 tank with Echo 2 components installed. Switched the instrument clusters and computers back to their original cars. Both cars retained their original information with clusters and computers removed for a hour or more. I didn’t start the engine for fear of overwriting and messing up the components. It appears the settings are stored somewhere else in the car so I would be afraid to run them for any length of time while looking for the electrical problem so am stuck again.
