Toyota cranks out profit for Q2

Toyota is on track to pull record profits for this fiscal year. Toyota?s second quarter (CY Q3 for everyone else) results are impressive with profits rising 2 percent to $2.6 billion and sales rising 9 percent to $42 billion. Toyota is expected to sell 8.03 million vehicles this fiscal year which ends March 2006. That is a jump from 7.4 million sold the previous year. Some analysts believe Toyota will outpace GM, which produced 9.1 million vehicles last year. Toyota has managed to pull a profit despite investing heavily in capacity expansion. Their impressive results are being contrasted against the struggles of Ford and GM, with both U.S. manufacturers taking significant losses.

Toyota did beat GM in October in the market share category. Actually Toyota was #1 in the US with ≈18.2%

I prefer foreign cars, however, GM will have a very good year next year with the debut of the new Yukon, Suburban, and Escalade.

not so sure about that with declining gas hog, i mean SUV, numbers due to higher gas prices

Not if gas prices go through the roof again next year.

In all honesty, I do wish the domestic automakers could compete well with their foreign rivals.

The Lincoln Zephyr looks pretty nice, but still out of my price range.

They can compete if they can loosen the grip that the UAW has on their testes.

Gas prices are almost below two bucks where I am.

Besides, if you're buying a $60,000 Escalade, a 20 cent increase in gas shouldn't mean much.
