A local dealership has a white 2003 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4WD with 35,000 miles. The exterior/interior is in great condition, looks practically brand new.

Has a roof rack, running boards and all standard stuff (power everything except seats). It also has a moonroof.

The dealer is asking 22,995 for it, and will give me 12,500 as a trade in for my wife's 2003 Toyota Celica with 40k miles. (also in perfect condition)

Is the asking price fair? I don't buy cars all that often and haven't done a lot of bargaining with the dealer.

Also, if anyone here owns a 4runner reviews would be great!

I"ve been checking all the sites such as NADA, KBB and Edmunds for pricing/reviews also.

I have a 2000 4Runner with almost the exact same options and I love it. I honestly think I will have it for the next 10-15 years. I have only had minor problems with it like warped rotors (which only happened once).

I would highly recommend the 4Runner to anyone who wants an SUV that drives like a truck. It isn't quiet inside the cabin and you can definitely feel the road more than a luxury SUV.

Not sure if that price is good or not but I would check craigslist to see what the asking price is and go from there. Your dealership will mark up the price but they should also offer a warranty.

I was definitely impressed with all the "extra" little things that it has. I love the finish and feel of Toyota's.

My wife is in love with it and I really enjoyed driving it. I hate the celica as I do not like to feel like I am sitting on the road while driving. I also enjoy a bit more headroom.. it has been a GREAT car, however.

You can buy a brand new 2007 toyota 4runner limited fully loaded with the 4x4 V8 with navigation for $39k.

Brand new 2007 SR5 4x4 V6 with moonroof is $27k.

I'd love to get a new one, but 27K is definitely out of my price range.

23k is probably at the highest peak that I want to pay for anything. It's actually probably a bit more than what I should pay for a vehicle.

If $27k prices you out of your price range and $23k doesn't, I think you should reconsider buying any vehicle. But my point was that the used price seems high, considering a brand new one is only $4k higher than it's 4 year old predecessor.

a quick estimate is that 27K is $150 more per month.. sure, I can afford it, but don't want to.
What kind of price would be more reasonable for a used '03? Carmax has a similarly equipped '04 with 45k miles and is asking 20,998.
I was considering trying to talk him down to around 21-22k. Somewhere in that range.. just want to be somewhat knowledgeable before attempting it.

Edit: Also, I was wondering what you were basing your prices off of. I checked with my local toyota dealer and brand new 07 4runner SR5's are at ~33k MSRP. Do dealers go down THAT much, especially on toyotas which seem to sell REALLY well?

21-22k is still 2k above what you should be paying.
