Toyed with a hookah for the first time last week...

I don't smoke anything normally, but I was out partying with some friends all last week during spring break, and there was a hookah (sp?) at the party. We were all drunk, and I knew for a fact it was just tobacco, so I was like why not. I have a puff, coughed, everyone laughed, the usual. I took probably 6-10 more "hits" of it and then stopped for the rest of the night. This was saturday night and I'm still coughing, not just the lil pansy coughs either, the deeper more "hoarse" coughs.


This normal for a first time smoker?


And no, I won't be doing that again.

That's weird. I've smoked a hookah a couple times, and never had problems afterwards. I've never smoked cigarettes, so it's not like I'm "used to it".

You sure that was just tobacco? I thought the whole idea of a hookah was to be much smoother than pipes/cigarettes/cigars.
 
It was smooth all the other times, just the first one got me. And yeah, I know it was tobacco, I know the people their and no one would have screwed with it like that.

I have done it a few times and if I inhale too quickly I will caugh but never the next day. I dont smoke other than that. I do it at a hookah bar though.

No it's not normal.

You could have caught a cold from sharing mouthpieces.

Agreed, the holes in the foil holding the charcoals were too big, and you probably inhaled too much of the charcoal (in little pieces).

and yeah, after thinking about it, I most likely inhaled some charcoal ash, how long can I expect for this crap to last?
 
hookahs are some of the cleanest and smoothest ways to smoke tobacco...no one should ever have a cough after smoking ANYTHING (even weed) more than a couple hours after you stop...something else is the problem...you might be sick or your body may be extra sensative to smoke..or someone else was sick and now you are too...go to the doctor if you cough ****** up (yellow, especially red)

OP, you probably just swallowed a small bit of tobacco or charcoal

there wasn't weed in it. u wouldn't *still* be coughing from that

If charcoal or tobacco gets past the water in a hookah, there is definitely something wrong.
 
A friend of mine is married to an arab chick(or rather, her family is from Egypt, she's about as Swedish as it gets, looks aside).
Her sister gave him a water pipe once, and we've smoked tobacco from that thing lots and lots of times, no one ever had any problems with that, so yeah something was probably wrong.

And no, I'm not a smoker, so I'm not used to it 🙂

By the way, first time I've ever heard the word "hookah", I thought it was some kind of gettho slang for "hooker" before I Googled it 😀
