Toy Story 4 to be a romance comedy

Toy Story 4 will be a romcom, with less of a focus on the relationship between the characters and children.

Pixar studio president Jim Morris made the revelation in an interview to Spanish fan site Disney Latino, in which he talked about the future direction of the animated franchise.

"It will be a love story," he said. "It will be a romantic comedy.

"It will not put much focus on the interaction between the characters and children."

John Lasseter, who directed Toy Story and Toy Story 2, is returning to direct the new film, which is due for release on 16 June, 2017.

I know WHY they are making another one ($$$), but... WHY make another?

Toy Story 3 ended so well and so freaking perfectly.

Toy Story 3 ended so well and so freaking perfectly.

They kinda agree:

"The third film ended in a beautiful way and completed a trilogy," he told Disney Latino blog.

"This movie isn't part of the trilogy. It's a separate story and I don't know if will be continued."

Honestly this thing looks like just a pet project for John Lasseter. He wants to take the characters he has already established and tell a new story with them, like Joss gets to do with the Avengers.

And I say Mr. Lasseter can do whatever the hell he wants. He is the modern day Walt Disney. First he COMPLETELY revolutionizes the industry with Toy Story (a movie that came out a year after traditional animation peak of the Lion King). Then he rebuilt Disney into the best form it has been in since I was a young kid. I am not a fan of Frozen but it will be the basis for so many rides its not funny. Other Disney animation movies under his watch- like Tangled or Wreck Em Ralph- have been very enjoyable. He saved that studio.

So if he wants to make a Toy Story 4,5,6,7 or whatever he can do it. Toy Story was already being cheapened by the lackluster short movies and specials, so this won't hurt much. Disney didn't buy Pixar to NOT rape and pillage those properties for revenue, it is their DNA. I would much rather they dick with Toy Story than crank out an unneeded sequel to some of the higher art Pixar did after the merger like UP or Wall E (aka the best Sci Fi since Blade Runner).

I predict an Expendables III type reception, with a quick check of reality and decision that Toy Story 5 will go back to its roots.

I think it makes sense to change the formula at least, the original arc went full circle. I mean sure Toy Story 4 could be "oh no, now the new girl is growing up too! it's happening again!" but I don't think they want to re-tread it or cheapen the experience by repeating it.

They're still compelling and lovable characters but need a new story to tell. A number of the classic Disney princess/prince movies are basically romantic comedies/dramadies and it doesn't take away from them. The genre has a poor connotation but I doubt it's going to be without heart or gravity.
