That's a remarkably stupid take. If everyone but him and his company stopped paying taxes there would no longer be sufficient money for congressional salaries. Therefore, he doesn't pay his salary.

Not only is this dumb from a public policy perspective, it makes him look like an arrogant ass. Smart move!

I was going to say. Seems like the definition of arrogance.

It's Oklahoma. The only danger he runs is being primaried next election otherwise he is safe no matter what he says.

Maybe. Maybe he has more to worry about than he thinks if Kansas is any indication. Either way, his statement is sure to anger more moderates and further on the right.

Well then he should share with his constituents just how much taxes he paid to pay himself. As far as I'm concerned, in true Repub form, the service he's performing is a self-serving one. The only service he's providing his constituents is to serve up the usual platter full of bullcrap he's accusing his constituents of flinging at him.

An apology from him won't suffice. It won't make what he said go away. It will come back at him when it hurts the most.

I understand the sentiment however it is neither here nor there since you are there to represent the residents of your district. A poor choice on his part to make that statement. So many better responses he could have come up with but it appears the campaign of disruption being waged at town hall meetings across the country got to him and he lost it a little bit. Slowly but surely they are chipping away away at the republican opposition. Death by a thousand cuts seems to be the strategy.

If Mullin & Repubs in general intended to serve the interests of the people in their districts they'd take an approach that balances those interests. They haven't done that for decades, choosing instead to serve the interests of wealth behind a screed of FUD.

I mean, it'll all trickle down, right?

I think a close examination of Dems would reveal much the same things. Professional politicians have a constituency of 1 and that would be themselves regardless of party. This has been demonstrated over and over again. Voters are loyal to their team regardless of how poorly represented they are. It's human nature. Personally I have no team. I say if you are unhappy with the state of affairs vote against anyone who is an incumbent. They don't deserve your vote. They either failed to represent your interests or they were simply not effective. In either case they need to be fired just like would happen in the real world and does everyday.

One team profits from policy that is designed to fuck you and one team profits from policy that is designed to protect you, but you keep on believing everyone is out to fuck you.

He's probably right. Maybe he gets most of his pay from kickbacks and other pay to play schemes. Maybe he's just being super honest about who he's beholden to.

I'm thinking he's thinking "why are all of these traitorous assholes who lovingly voted for me flip flopping on me and are now wanting to throw me, ME of all people, under the bus and then drag my ass through the streets? Those two-timing back stabbing ingrates. If I didn't need their votes I wouldn't have to lower myself down in the dirt with them. I wouldn't have to put up with this.....this....bull crap. You know what? I don't need them, they need me. Yeah, they need me. ME."

"They're just as bad" is bullshit. Just stop it.

This election should really bring that into sharp relief. On one side we had a billionaire shyster who won't reveal his tax returns & brags about how smart he is in avoiding taxes who promised to cut taxes even more for his class. On the other side we had a person who demonstrably paid 30% in federal income taxes, gave 10% to charity & said they'd raise their own taxes & the taxes of other wealthy people so that govt can do the things that serve the people.

Beyond that, Repubs now hold both houses of Congress & the Executive branch so it would be completely insane for Dems to vote out their reps simply because they're ineffective in the minority.

The information is out there you just have to let it in.
I'll take that as an "I've got nothing so I'll just throw things out and hope something sticks." It's no surprise then that you default to the brainless "vote the incumbent out if you're not happy" theory. Much easier to just do that than to actually research which policies you think need to change. The funniest part is that you actually think your approach makes you smarter than people you think are "team players." The saddest part is that you don't realize that the only person responsible for your own happiness is you. If you are relying on other people to make you happy, you never will be.
