Early today I ordered a Big Typhoon and it has already shipped out - due to arrive Thursday. Upon browsing the forum this evening, I noticed in the thread regarding the E6600 vs E6700, there was a link to another site which OCed the 6600 to 3.9/4Ghz with the Tuniq Tower 120 cooler. I had never previously heard of the Tower 120 and after looking up various HSF reviews, I got the impression that in terms of air, the majority went with either the BT, the CNPS9500, or the Scythe etc but I have never heard of the Tuniq until now. So I do a little research and see some very favorable reviews of this particular HSF. Do you guys have any information on how the Big Typhoon compares with the Tuniq Tower 120 in terms of cooling performance? It seems that it is priced about the same as the BT but it also seems to be fairly short in supply if stocked at all at most of the e-tailers that I have been to.

When I run my Opty 165 at about 2.6Ghz 9x290 1.4v, it idles at 31-33C but will skyrocket to like 54C under dual instances of Prime95 and I am sure that it would very slowly continue to rise after that if I left it on for longer than 3-4 hours. I am using the stock HS with a slightly upgraded 80mm fan replacing the AMD one (I stress only slightly upgraded like 10cfm more). The main thing is I understand that it is important to be able to run Prime for 6,8,12 hours or whatever you guys prefer, but as long as it does not get too hot after gaming for about 3-4 hours, then it will suffice until I get the performance HSF setup. I have good airflow in my case (for me at least) with 2 39cfm 80mm Masscools in the intake and one for exhaust.

Basically, I just needed to know your opinions on whether it would be worth sending the Big Typhoon back and ordering the T-120. Also, based on the temps that I mentioned above, what do you think I should expect to get with the BT at the same settings?

The Tower is a tad better, but it's out of stock everywhere until atleast mid-August. The machine that makes them broke.

"Tad better"?? It scales in at 800g w/o the fan! Add the fan and we are closing in on 950g. Yikes! That's heavy.

Others can use the heavy weights...Not me.
