Recently I purchased 1gb of DDR400 RAM, 2 sticks of 512MB each, single channel. The purchase was a few weeks apart and as a result although the brand name and speed are same the chips on the memory are different.

CPU: Athlon XP 2800+ Barton
MB: ECS KT600-A (Single channel only)
RAM: ACE 1024MB DDR400 (Set to run at 333Mhz, since the 2800+ is 333 Mhz FSB)
GPU: Radeon 9600XT

I am not into overclocking but was wondering if there are any stability issues related to running two sticks of RAM with different chips.

Any thoughts?

You computer will just run at the slower memory speed. You shouldnt have any stability problems.

Thanks pirred908.

My Windows XP is already having lockups while playing few of the games. I have to do a reset.

Looks like I made a big mistake when I bought 1GB ram. There are no restrictions for the DDR333 memory but the motherboard's manual says it dosen't support all DDR400 modules. One thing I now understand is the ECS KT600-A is *not* a good motherboard when it comes to RAM support.

From the manual...
> DDR400 can only support up to 2 DIMMs:
> 1. One double sided DIMM (or)
> 2. Two single sided DIMMs.
> The supported chips are NANYA, Infineon, Micron.

But from what I understand this DDR400 restriction only applies when the FSB and RAM are running at 400Mhz.

Because my Athlon 2800+ Barton only has a max FSB of 333Mhz (current setting) the RAM is treated as 333Mhz (PC2700) right?

Can someone with some insight please help me out?
