Ok so Lance is still leading by 38 seconds for like the 5th day in a row? DO he and the second place guy SERIOUSLY just ride side by side the whole time? how can they be EXACTLY 38 seconds apart day after day??

Am I not getting something about how these times are kept?

yeah...if you finish within a certain amount of time everyone gets the same time, there are just time bonuses for certain places

edit: to make more clear, the first and last man in the peloton all get the same time, they may even get the same time as those who sprint out in front of them if it's real close, don't know how close it has to be

There should be 300 people with 300 stopwatches to accurately time each competitor.

Either that or do it by computer. Give each rider a little magnetic bracelet with a unique #. When they cross the finish it gets scanned with the time.

Easy !

seriously...they do that for running races...why not bike races ( im talking about the chip timer, NOT the mass stopwatches!)

Lance built up a lead in the first mountainous stage with big climbs over his closest competition. The sprinters are winning stages now but they are so far behind Lance he doesn't consider them a threat.

His competitors are finishing with the peloton, as is Lance. Anyone considered in the Peloton is given the same time as the first rider in the peloton to cross the finish line.

They have transponders on every bike to measure the time, that would not be a problem. However, when you have 190 people all trying to get to the line first, there would be some massive problems. For the safety of the riders, as long as there is not a gap in the group, you are given the same time as the first person in the group. A official desides if there is a gap or not.

There is a rule that everyone in the peloton the same time. The reason for this is to avoid 180 guys all trying to squeeze past each other at 35mph, which inevitably leads to crashes. After you've road 120 miles, the fact that you are 2 meters behind another guy is no big deal.

The winner is the guy that can stay in the lead group for every stage of the race.

Did he anounce puublicaly or privately that he was leaving?
Or, is it that no one has heard from him lately?

It's not that they can't, it's that they don't want to I think. Think about it, if you ride a bike 100 miles and end up finishing within 2 seconds of someone else, you had pretty much the same average speed. Especially since they can't all start at the exact same time, it wouldn't really be fair to get too precise with the timekeeping (yeah, I know they do it with marathons, but they let the people who "matter" start first).

Time trials are where they take the exact time.

I have heard from him, not long ago.

He said he was tired of e-arguing with the mods while they protected people he thought were morons, so he left.
