Tough problem to trouble shoot

OCZ Vertext LE 100G Firmware 1.05
Ram passes 200% Memtest HCI and is at loose timings with adequate volts
Same cpu specs, no overclocking; no anything for that matter. I haven't changed anything on the computer.

As of late, for some reason the os will become non-responsive; desktop is gone with just the wallpaper pic showing - no task-bar, icons, etc. One of the other crashes, everything stopped responding and in a few minutes, it crashed and re-booted to a "please pick a proper OS Boot drive to start" or something like that...

The cores are not out of normal temps. It passed 200% of Memtest HCI...

I'm lost. I'm suspicious of the SSD but I figure it would just straight up and crash and not be able to reboot..

I've done a back-up cycle of the things I need in-case anything turns an unrecoverable nose dive.

...

Yeah those early Sandforce drives have crap reliability. You could try doing a secure erase but I suspect that the problems will reoccur within another week or 2. Probably will have to RMA it.

I'm hoping not.

If I have to, what tools do I use to do a secure erase?

You've had a butt load of issues with your builds. Bad luck. Rma that a get an intel drive. Might be a tad slower but solid as a rock. You would never notice the speed difference in real life.

It could be related to the shock I got from the co-axial cable + the outlets not being grounded... :hmm:

Well, I changed the bios battery, and installed the Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers and it's still happening. The system completely becomes unresponsive and it reboots to this:

I reboot and I am up and running until it crashes again..

It sounds like your Sandforce is getting bogged down and unresponsive enough to not respond to the BIOS's drive detection routines. Remember that SSD controllers are small computers unto themselves. I don't think that this is a BIOS or driver issue, but instead a problem with the drive's firmware getting into a bad state. Have you tried updating to 1.10?

I didn't know 1.10 was the latest for the Sandforce 1500 controller...

I re-visited the page i got 1.05 from but that page doesnt update like I though it would.. i'll have to go searching for it, thanks dood!

Yeah you have to go to the OCZ forums. You might try asking about your problem there too.

That didn't work. But 1.10 seems to speed up the drive.

It happened again. I did notice my TV tuner card trying to update itself when it crashed/became un-responsive.

EDIT:

I've been able to reproduce the crash by simply updating the WinTV program listings, and every-time it crashes. This may be just a co-incidence but it looks like I'm on to something.

Well, looks like my it was my OCZ Vertex LE - it just bellied up and bricked. Even with the latest FW and the latest Intel RST drivers... now.. I'll just have look into doing and RMA

Sucks man. I guess that's what happens when companies get a "special" stock of chips with pre-release firmware on them. I wouldn't be surprised if they replaced it with a production Vertex 2.

Yeah :\

Now I just am wondering how to erase it now that it won't boot: atleast to have the peace of mind before I send the SSD with all my info on it.. D:
