Tough, jobsite boombox recommendations

My dad is a farmer and wants a boombox for his birthday. I'm looking at something like this:

The ruggedness is probably the driving factor. He'll probably listen to the radio 95% of the time but he wants to option to use his Sansa .mp3 player or iPhone to playback, too.

Anyone have any experience with these kinds of devices or any recommendations?

I'm thinking about building a boom box myself. I've got a few of these cheap class d and other design amps from parts express and ebay, some of them rock.
I'm thinking about building an electronic crossover and using more amps because the cost of good passive crossover parts has gone way up, and these amps are dirt cheap.
Now I just need to build a box for some speakers and add some batteries, I'll use a sansa clip zip as a source.
How big a woofers should I use, anyway?

Does he have cordless powertools? You could get the one feom the same brand so he can leverage the batteries.
