Touchpad Problems

I purchased a custom laptop from a system builder on eBay a couple of years ago. The system is an Intel Rick Creek 2 and the motherboard is an Intel MGM45WU mobile board. When I use the touchpad, the cursor will all of a sudden start acting erratically, opening and closing windows. Sometimes the cursor will freeze. When it starts acting erratically, I cannot touch the touchpad for about 10-15 seconds. If the cursor freezes, I have to Ctrl+Alt+Del and start the Task Manager to unfreeze the cursor. I think is it a hardware problem because it started when I had Windows Vista and it continued when I upgraded to Windows 7. I played around with the mouse and cursor speed settings and nothing has helped. Unfortunately, Intel has discontinued support for my motherboard, so I cannot get any help with fixing or replacing the touchpad. I would like to replace the touchpad, but I do not have a part number. I am considering buying a touchpad on eBay from seller who is parting their system, but I do not know what would be compatible. Does anyone have any ideas?

Have you opened up the laptop and checked the connector from the touchpad is secure and has no dust in it? I only suggest you do this as you will be doing exactly the same thing if you order a spare part.
