I have a Dell laptop (inspiron 6000) with a touchpad mouse. For the past month or so, sometimes the touchpad acts funny. It still works, but it will randomly freeze for a couple seconds. This literally happens like every 5 or so seconds. Incredibly annoying. I tried reinstalling the driver, as there is no new version, but that didnt help. So I'm fresh out of ideas. Is there anything software related that could fix this, or is the hardware itself busted? It is like 4 years old....

Dell has a reputation for poor quality touchpads, so it might well be a hardware issue. Have you contacted Dell support? They might know if it is general problem with the Inspiron 6000.

Does everything seem to freeze at the same time?
Also, does it happen when you are using battery power and when you are plugged in?

I have one I am trying to repair for an elderly lady, I''d suggest you clean the touchpad thoroughly 1st, if not then you'll hae to look at disassembling it and trying to replace the touchpad.
