So I opened my laptop up last night in order to clear out the dust (literally), put it back together, and discovered that my touchpad wasn't working anymore.

I opened it back up again, and noticed that the ribbon cable from the touchpad was disconnected from the motherboard, and I can't figure out how to reconnect it. Does it have to be soldered back on, or is it a simple plug it back in kind of fix?

The cable is really short and seems to only reach where it's supposed to be plugged into when the laptop is closed. Any tips?

normally it slides into a kind of sleave than you can press down, or theirs a flap you can flip down.

Yeah, there's usually a little connector on the end of the cable that plugs in. It doesn't stretch much; everything in the laptop is a tight fit, but try and connect it just as you're putting it all together if you know what I mean - with the pieces as close as possible and almost no room for you to get in at it.

Make sure the battery is out of laptop and plug disconnected. Dont want to short anything out. :)

It's a compaq Nc4000.

So I managed to get it plugged back in, pushed the "switch" down, but it still doesn't work =/

Any suggestions?
