what is the price range for a touch up paint job? My gf saw a nice car, but the problem is that that the paint has chipped in numerous places (2 on the hood and a few on the passenger side) and there is a small rust area in the rear.

Is Maaco really that bad?

I haven't heard of such a thing as touch up paint job - getting colors to match is nearly impossible.

So look how much would new PAINTjob cost. Strip old paint and paint with new.

if the OP can't get it in time, i got an estimate from Maaco a couple weeks ago for a coupe.

the cheapest one (forgot its name) had a special and was $275 for the whole car. i forgot to get the prep cost but i think it's $200. 1 year prorated warranty i think.

the second cheapest (Presidential) had a special for $400 + $200 prep. 2 year prorated warranty. they sent me a $100 off coupon a week or so after the quote was printed up. so if you/your gf decide to go with this Gibson486, get the quote and wait a week. you may get a coupon.

i'm not sure about their quality as i've heard less than stellar things about them, but my car isn't exactly high class and it doesn't have paint on the whole body so my highest priorities are getting my car to have matching paint everywhere it should at the lowest cost.

OP, how much is your gf willing to spend on a paint job? how important is a warranty?

For the low end (low cost) paint jobs, you get what you pay for. It will be done with low quallity materials and will not be very durable. The bodywork prep will be minimal and it may look good at first, but it definitely will not last. Getting paint to match is difficult, but it can be done with excellent results. There are shops that can match colors and blend the panels, but it is not cheap for a quality job.

I use PPG products and my current project is a '67 Mustang which I am doing complete restoration. I have over $2000 invested in paint materials. PPG may be a bit more expensive than HOK and Dupont products, but it is a durable and established paint system.

My Civic was painted twice in the short time that I had it. Shop matched the paint perfectly each time. Both were big dings in the rear bumper, and neither time was the entire bumper repainted.

Might have been easy to match since the car was brand new though...

My G35 (red metallic) had some really bad scratches caused by a bicyclist that I had removed by a scratch repair guy that I found on Craigslist. He did an awesome job and I was pretty happy with his work so yes, it is possible to have touch up done.

It depends on how big the dings /scraches are I used some touch up paint I got from the dealer on my '06 metalic silver accord to fix some rock chips on the hood (didn't break the primer) and some paint that had flaked off the rear bumper due to a minor run in w/ a pole and you can still see where it was repaired on the bumper if you look closely but the hood looks perfect for something like the bumper where its not going to rust wasn't really worth having the whole thing repainted and at a distance you can't tell a thing.

Rock chips sound like touch up. Rust spots don't. I would think you have a bigger issue than just touching up paint over rust spots.
