touch lamp not functioning properly anymore

I have a three year old touch lamp that doesn't function properly. It used to have 4 levels: on, 33%, 66%, and 100%. I just got the lamp back from a friend after ~4 months, and the lamp on constantly stays on at 100%.

I'm pretty sure it's not the lamp, but could it be it? I had to get a new lamp to replace the old lamp that had gone bust.

Sounds like the bulb - the 3 way bulbs go out often and only do on/off quite a bit.

I just bought the new bulb today 🙁.

And apparently, the bulb doesn't have to be three way either, you can just use a regular bulb, and it will still work.

edit: I don't know if it was clear or not, but the bulb only stays on, when plugged in. It doesn't have any other state, not even off.
