I went to boot up my PC this morning and it won;t get passed the XP loading. I am not sure if the HD is dead or not but I thought I'd best reinstall windows .

Well it gets to the point it is loading windows for the install but i get a "Stop: Hard Error" (there is other stuff afterward but that's what caught my eye. IS my XP disk damaged or is it my HD?

You can try removing unecessary hardware. If it comes down to being a driver issue it may get a little more complicated to fix. Especially if you've already done a reinstall and the problem is still there. Did you do that already?

If not, you can opt to do a repair install(not the first option during setup, but the second when it detects your current OS). If you did do a reinstall though, any driver issues should have been resolved.

If you could give a little more info on the Hard Error that would help. Test your ram as well if memtest is available to you. Some mothers come with that built in. I'd say check the system logs but since that doesn't seem to be an option.
