Totally unethical question of the day: how hard is it to gut a Wii?

Just curious, don't judge me!
*update*
Ethics in check, crisis averted. I just got off of the phone with Nintendo. I told them that this was obviously a system malfunction and evidence on the internet shows that a small percent of first run wii were shipped with faulty graphic's chips, which causes the problems I'm experiencing.

I explained that it just wasn't fair to charge me a full repair fee, yada yada yada. A supervisor agreed to a reduced fee of $35 shipped, which is low enough for me not to make a bigger deal out of this than necessary.

It's clear the purpose of this thread, and it won't be allowed

Long story short - bought a wii from Gamestop, refurb. I never buy the extended warrant but should have. 3 months later (today) and the unit doesn't work, there's weird interference, squiggly lines every where (malfunction, I didn't do anything to create the squigglies). . I call nintendo and they tell me that the unit in question is over 2 years old and the warranty is void.

How much did they quote to repair it?

So I'm guessing that you're planning on buying another Wii, swapping out the innards, then returning it?

Just distract a GS employee and steal a new Wii from their bathroom.

I don't get it, what does it matter how old the unit is? The point is that you bought it 3 months ago and it's defective and should still be under warranty even for a refurb. That is unless of course you mean you bought a used Wii instead of refurb in which case as HardcoreRobot so eloquently put it, tough shit.

So you want to buy/borrow/steal/rent/whatever a Wii, gut both, switch the innards, send back the one still under warranty to get it fixed for free when you didn't buy the warranty on a refurb product that doesn't have one?

Last I checked that is fraud, and I hope Nintendo catches it.

PS what happens if they put the serial number on the board itself? Buy a new one, peel off the serial #'s, switch them, and return the defective one?

See for yourself and open it up, warranty is dead so not like it matters if you open it or not.

The Wii's mfg'ed date was over 2 years ago. Nintendo's warranty is for 1 year.

If it was refurbed at the factory it would still be 1 year from date of sale (after the refurbing of it).

Bingo. I thought factory refurbs usually carry a warranty similar to the original product - or at least a year. If Nintendo's refurb warranty policy is only 90 days .. ick.

It was a refurb from gamestop. Nintendo tech support says that the warranty period is based partially on manufacturing date, which makes absolutely no sense to me.

Did you ask how it works?

Gamestop should have let you know if there was any warranty on the unit. If they did and you didn't buy the extended, then it's your fault and I don't think anybody on this forum will help you defraud Nintendo.

Have you contacted GameStop?
