Totally hosed my sys!

Pushed my P4S533 too far and got a hard disk write error - rebooted and got a win.com not found (win98). Tried re-installing win98 and did a million fixes resulting in quite a few c:\dir0000## directories which appears to be my former windows directory.

Windows will not find any new devices. In Device Manager I just see a few system resources - no Plug and Play. Tried flashing the BIOS but it didn't help and I didn't think it would because the OS on my secondary drive, which I am using now, found devices just fine.

Anyone have any ideas about how to get my sys back to the point where it finds PnP devices?

Thanks!

Eghk... corrupted data?... dunno how you could fix that other than a full format... but i thought that happens over time and not instantaneous... :(

You can definitely trash data by overclocking. It's one of the most common and most devastating side effects - much more likely than damaging your components (as long as the voltage is not increased unreasonably).

Oh well! I've ordered Win XP Pro as I was going to do that anyway. Will start with a fresh install/reformat.

Working off my secondary now which is fine except that for some reason it keeps showing a resource conflict for LPT1 port. Only thing is there is no conflict listed and no other device is using that IRQ.

Also, I keep getting an "unknown hardware" at boot up and cannot figure out what that is.

Anyone have any ideas for these issues?

Board is Asus P4S533. Good board. No AGP/PCI bus lock, but pretty solid and pretty fast.
