Totally disassembled an ibook!!!

86 screws and many, many pieces to remove but I got the HD out and formated it in a different mac. I can't seem to get this box to accept any of the OS disks I have but admittedly, I don't have the OS 9 cd that came with the unit, nor any other os9 cd.

I had some *cough* copies *cough* of os 9 variations but the ibook wouldn't boot to them either. I'm not sure where to go with this little gem. It looks nice and the wife really wants it to work.

The true nature of my post, however, is to beat my chest over being able to totally disassemble a laptop and put it back together and have it work!!

Cheers,

What type of iBook do you have? If it's one of the newer G3 or G4 white iBooks I'm guessing that you would be able to put OSX on it without a problem.

Congrats, on your feat. I just ordered a 7K60 hard drive for my 12" ibook. So next week I get to tackle the iBook.

Apparently, os9.1 or earlier must be installed, then updated to 9.2.

I can't go right to 9.2 or osX.

I bought one on ebay thinkin it was what I wanted or needed but it turned out that I need 9.1.

These things are finiky. I'll be upgrading Ram, HD and maybe the proc if the wife likes it.

Once you get the bottom cover off its gets alot easier. Its just the frear of scratching the h3ll out the cover that got me.

There were 6 screws on the bottom that were torx. There were a couple inside that needed alan wrences or a very small socket, niether of which I possessed, so I used needle nosed pliers with success.
