I have used laptops for the past 4 years of my life, and I have decided that I will put my money from now on into computers whose parts/cases I can recycle. The Anandtech $1800 System in the System Buyer's Guide (http://www.anandtech.com/guide...owdoc.aspx?i=3542&p=5) greatly helped me in putting together this general blueprint, but I am switching some parts...and as a result have questions for the more expert members of this message board. I'm looking to build a PC capable of "next gen" gaming (multithreading appears to be the new big technology) and some video editing during the NFL season (as a hobby, I like to make highlight videos).

CPU: i7 920 - $289
Cooling: Vigor Monsoon III LT - $56
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R - $200
Video: Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 X2 2GB - $280
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31000333AS 1TB - $90
Optical: LG BD/HD DVD / 16x DVD+/- RW GGC-H20LK - $99
Case: Thermaltake Spedo VI9001N2Z - $190
RAM: OCZ 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3-1333 Triple-Channel Kit OCZ3X1333LV6GK 7-7-7-20 - $185
Power: Silverstone ST70F 700W - $100
Monitor: ASUS VW266H - $320

The rest of the $$ would go to the lovely HD monitor and a speaker system, plus a decent keyboard and mouse and mousepad. Basically, the system largely remains the same as what Anandtech's editors offered, but I have swapped out the video card (with more money to invest) and may add a 3rd party sound card. I have also been advised to consider swapping out the mobo for one with a faster FSB.

Admittedly, I'm hesitant to do any overclocking because I know nothing about it and do not want to junk any of my parts, or destroy the system through a firestorm of overheating. If I were to try overclocking, would this setup be able to adequately cool the CPU?

Again, as I am totally n00bed out, any advice is greatly appreciated.

I'd forget about that cooler and use stock until you hit its limits when overclocking.

Take the money and put it towards a faster and larger drive. 2TB drives are getting easy to find. The 7200.12's are pretty damn fast too.

Also look around and see how the 4890 stacks up against the 4750x2. Its newer and cheaper, not sure how it stacks up performance wise.

Thanks, these are some awesome suggestions! If I am going to run two Radeon HD 4890s in CrossFire instead of one Radeon HD 4850 X2, will I need a graphics cooler as well? I may even spend a little more scratch to get 3GB out of my video cards (for video editing purposes), so this is increasingly looking like an appetizing option...
