SO TRAGIC. Those people are in my prayers

More than 1,000 volunteers from every state were descending on flood-stricken Louisiana Wednesday to assist relief efforts for what the Red Cross called the nation's worst disaster since Superstorm SANDY
At least 11 people have been killed, some 40,000 homes affected and 30,000 people rescued in what officials have described as some of the worst flooding ever to hit the state.
Around 8,000 people remain in emergency shelters, days after the deluge began.
Most of Louisiana has received at least one foot of rain since Friday — with some places getting as much as 30 inches, according to the National Weather Service. Although the water has receded in some areas, it's still rising in others as the floodwaters move downstream toward the Gulf of Mexico.
The scale of the devastation was only starting to come to light.
"The current flooding in Louisiana is the worst natural disaster to strike the United States since Superstorm S**** [in Oct. 2012]" said Brad Kieserman, the Red Cross's vice president of disaster services, operations and logistics.

He said in a statement Tuesday that the relief operation would cost at least $30 million — warning that the price tag "may grow as we learn more about the scope and magnitude of the devastation."
Grammy award-winning musician Taylor Swift said she was donating $1 million to flood relief because of the warm welcome she was given when kicking off her world tour in the state last year.
"The fact that so many people in Louisiana have been forced out of their own homes this week is heartbreaking," the 26-year-old performer said in a statement. "I encourage those who can to help out and send your love and prayers their way during this devastating time."
The Red Cross said volunteers from all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, were helping thousands of residents get to a safe place, as well providing them with food and water.
Twenty parishes were under a federal disaster zone and more than a dozen were subject to overnight. At least 10 people have been arrested for looting in East Baton Rouge parish, according to Sheriff Sid Gautreaux.
Gautreaux told a news conference Tuesday that there were "significant" power outages and some homes and businesses had experienced "total devastation."

Among the worst affected was Livingston Parish, where more than three quarters of all homes have already been "lost to floods," Lori Steele, a spokeswoman for the parish, told NBC News.
"We're devastated in Livingston," Livingston Sheriff Jason Dore told the news conference.
Floodwaters were slopping over the top of the the Laurel Ridge levee, which protects the parish in the Baton Rouge metropolitan area from the Amite River, according to the Ascension Parish Homeland Security Office.
A third of Ascension's 45,000 homes have been flooded — and waters there are expected to rise.
"The next 24 to 48 hours is going to be a significant indication of just how much risk the parish remains in," said Rick Webre, director of the Homeland Security Office.
Forecasters said the worst of the rain is likely over, but the southern part of the state is still expected to see some 2 inches more rain through Friday, the NWS said.

As of Wednesday morning, 11 people have died and more than 40,000 homes have been damaged in ongoing flooding in southeastern Louisiana.

Up to two-and-a-half feet of rain that swelled rivers and swamped the area in and around Baton Rouge, La., has led the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to classify the flooding as a once-in-every-500-years event.

IT'S OBAMA'S FAULT!

Or is it still Bush's fault that Katrina hit? I gotta wonder.

Anyway... It's really all biblical if you ask me. With the daily news reports of, "ISIS claims responsibility for this and ISIS claims responsibility for that." a shooting here and there, another cop in the grave, a protest here a riot there. But what's so telling about the sheer division in this country is that on one side of the country people are saving lives and on the other people are killing each other.

I'm sure there's a story somewhere in Revelation.

Took me a minute.

And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Matthew 24:6-8

When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near. Luke 21:20-28 (NIV)

You're a brilliant prophet. Goodness knows we've all been dying to have a replacement for Harold Camping.

I feel bad for them.. My late wife's family lives in Denham Springs and it's all low lands very susceptible to flooding. Most homes near the waterways are off grade but that won't help unless you're up on stilts when the water level is that high.

If anyone is interested. You can go to Broadcastify and listen to the local police/fire/EMS from over there. This service stemmed from what Radioreference.com created and now it's often attributed on the news. For us scanner junkies that just gives ammunition to public safety to pull the encryption trigger and many have done just that.

Anyone know how to decrypt AES256?

Have some foresight for once and know that zero fucks were given about your responses. ZERO.
I'm sorry sir, my fuckometer disagrees, it's registering a non-zero number, with corroborating evidence that you quoted both of us to tell us you give zero fucks about us calling out your dumbshit post. Also, maybe have some hindsight and see how many other people have made the same dumbshit claim you have, "Some things in the world aren't going too great, if I read this scripture correctly, it means we're living in the end times".

These vague descriptions of troubled times could be applied to pretty much any period in human history and would seem relevant, because there are always troubled times. Which is why they have been used to foretell the coming of the apocalypse over and over for a thousand years. The one biblical passage that, curiously, never seems to get included is the one that states that no man will know the hour of his coming, i.e. if you believe the bible then you must believe that anyone who thinks they have foretold the second coming is either just being silly, or is satanically influenced. It's quite a conundrum.

What if there is a God, and he's punishing them for being pro-Trump?

Or what if there isn't a god, and your take on the matter is disgusting either way? Should any natural disaster ever come upon you, I hope you get the help you need. These are real people suffering right now, made out of the same crap from the stars you're made of. Show some respect.

Apologies. My response was meant more as a joke to the people who were mentioning praying. You're right - it's not a good topic to make a joke about.

I appreciate that. There are some things that just transcend things like religion and politics. This is one of those things. I grew up in Baton Rouge and my whole family and a lot of close friends live there, so right there you know this is a topic that weighs heavily on my mind right now.

My parents neighborhood in Greenwell Springs started to flood, my father was able to be on the phone with me as the Coast Guard choppers were evacuating the flooded parts of the neighborhood. Luckily their house in the back portion of the neighborhood didn't get water. It was super tense for me because the last I was able to get ahold of my father, the water was coming up their street.

My sister and brother-in-law, with whom I also wasn't able to get in contact with, came within an inch of the water coming in their front door in Central which is right next to Denham Springs, which pretty much got totally wiped out. Every single house around them got water. She had to evacuate with the pets and my brother-in-law stayed behind with food, an axe and a bucket. I don't really believe in god myself, but how they escaped getting water inside their house while being surrounded by neighbors losing everything is just amazing.

I only personally know 2 people that lost their house, and they are devastated. One of them was told a month prior that their neighborhood had been removed from flood zone charts, and that being so cancelled their flood insurance only to have this happen to them.

It's going to take a lot of time for Baton Rouge and other affected areas in Louisiana to heal. There are countless stories already everywhere on the internet of volunteers from other states bringing in food, water, boats, HWV's, and various other forms of aid to the region. I don't have much hope in humanity, but to see people stand together in times like this makes me second guess myself from time to time.
