Anyone know exactly how many colors there are in the world? Is there a finite number? I find it hard to believe that there are so many colors. I only see so many myself. I see two girls wearing what I think is the same color dress, whereas one is "really" periwinkle, and the other is some other weird name. Any thoughts on this?

Well wouldn't there be an infinite number of different color gradients? The only thing that separates one color from another is its wavelength. Violet has a wavelength of 380nm (?). 381nm would be a different color gradient, as would 380.5 and 380.4 and so on. Of course you'd never notice such a small difference.

I haven't the slightest clue what the smallest gradient the human eye could distinguish, but you should be able to tell the differenct between perriwinkle and sky blue. :)

For every pair of non-identical numbers, there is always another number between them.

So no

<< However, there is a finite number of *named* colors >>

Yeah, go search the Crayola site and they'll show you them.

There are an infinite number of possible colors in the world, but the average human eye can only distinguish a select number (I think it was around 30,000)
