I was looking last week for a good S-VHS VCR and found that the new Toshiba W808 had all the goodies I needed, I live in California, so I ordered from consumer-direct.com(outside CA so no Tax) and got it for just over $250 shipped ($239.95 plus $11.87 FedEx Express shipping). I got it in 2 days. Even came with a free T-shirt. If you live outside California, then no tax at ecost.com may make it a better deal at $220 plus shipping (I don't know their shipping rates, but over $400 order get you free shipping). This isn't a hot deal, but not a bad VCR for the money (6 heads and S-VHS ET that lets you record S-VHS on a regular VHS tape). Has:

W808 6-Head Super VHS HiFi Stereo VCR with Digital Noise Reduction and VCR Plus+

XDS with Auto Clock Set
Preprogrammed Universal TV Remote Control

Auto Setup with Channel Memory

Energy Star Compliant

One Touch Record

Digital Audio Tracking

181 Channel FS Tuner

Auto Play

S-VHS ET (SUPER VHS)

DNR Perfect (Digital Noise Reduction)

VCR Plus+ with C3 Programming

6-Video Head 19 Micron System

Twin Flying Erase Heads

VCR Plus+ with C3 Programming

Front Panel Shuttle

Hi-Fi Stereo Record / Playback

MTS / SAP Audio Tuner

One Minute Rewind / FF (400x)

Luminescent Remote Keys

Auto Head Cleaner

Full Size Audio Style Cabinet (17")

Front and Rear A/V inputs

GetInMyFatBelly,

Not a bad deal for a very nice VCR. What do you think about the Panasonic PV-VS4820 SUPER VHS VCR for $179.95 from PCMall.com? (Go through ebates for an additional 3%)

I picked up two of these yesterday...1 for me and 1 for my mom. I liked the SVHS capability and especially liked the Commercial Advance and Movie Advance features which automatically skip over commercials during playback of recorded broadcasts and annoying movie previews on rented tapes. Comes with VCR Plus+Gold for easy programming, front AV inputs, and a bunch of other goodies.

Shipping (2nd day shipping) was ~$17.00 and UPS Ground was ~$12.00

Wolverine27,
Where exactly did you find the Panasonic PV-VS4820 at PCMall? I can't seem to find it.

Thanks!

Willow21,

I just checked the website again (8:35 p.m. est) and it appears that the Panasonic must be out of stock. There were only 4 left when I ordered yesterday. Here's the link to the Panasonic.

They say to call them for availability. Don't forget to go thru ebates to get an additional 3% back.

Regards,

Wolverine27

P.S. 800.com carries it for $249.94 but you may want to try price matching thru them. PCMall is not on their standard "price matching list" of vendors. But you can call 800.com at 800-327-5815 to check others vendors. Good luck.

I'm with wsmith5 over here. What is it with the lack of lp record speed? I got in on that JVC HRS-9600U deck from massmech*ndise a few months back for $199. Killer deck, top of the line, NO LP!!!! WTF??
