My roommate's laptop stopped working and I (being "the computer guy") have been charged with fixing it. Right now when you power it on, it gets as far as the black WinXP loading screen, then does a momentary BSOD and restarts. This runs in an infinite loop.
I attempted to make a recovery CD with Damn Small Linux, but it doesn't seem to boot from CDs even when I tell it to in the BIOS. It does not have a floppy drive so that is not an option either.
I would just tell him to send it in for warranty but he's a graphic design major and hasn't done a backup of his work for a few months, so keeping the data is a high priority.
